Mites Mission of the Month

Mites Mission of the Month (LWML National):

Kyrgyzstan Locals Trained for Evangelism - Prior to World War I, early settlers from Germany established Lutheran churches in Kyrgyzstan.  Today there is a very small Lutheran presence.  Concordia Lutheran Church, Bishkek, currently has six career missionaries that serve in the areas of church planting, theological education, and humanitarian and medical missions.  Free medical and dental care has been provided to over 180,000 women and children since 1999 from a medical van funded by Concordia Mission Society.

Kyrgyzstan's new presidential administration is still accepting of the work done by Christian churches as well as that done by the Muslims because they say it adds moral stability to the country.  However, these churches must register for state approval to avoid being seen as cults.

This mission grant will be used to equip local leaders to share the Gospel message with the people of Kyrgyzstan, most of whom are Muslims.  By proclaiming the love of Jesus, they hope to be able bring peace and comfort to a country still struggling after gaining independence from the Soviet Union.

Contribute Mites through your special Peace offering envelope or place a filled mite box in the large wooden mite box in the lobby.
